I have a GE Profile Performance refrigerator with a built in water filtration system and ice maker. I’ve had this refrigerator for years. All of a sudden, the ice and water tastes like metal and smells moldy. I have replaced the filter twice and no luck.

Fill the filter with bleach and run it through your system then flush out by running water through the system and repeat if needed.
You probably have to change the water lines going from the filter to the dispenser. Mold can grow in the lines after the filter and no matter what you do its going to be there, you waited to long to change your filter more or less.. but have no fear you can go to lowes or home depot and get the water line by the foot for like 12 cents…
you dont have to be a expert its kinda easy
Sounds like it could be the water line, although I’d call the mfg. and see what they say. In the meantime, I found a great little product that helped with my ice maker’s ice. Turned out the off taste and smell was really coming from fridge side.
So here’s my suggestion which is what I’ve done and wow – it really works great!! … and safe and totally fragrance free. Go out and get a couple of the FRIDGE-IT activated carbon odor absorbers – little purple carbon filter – not the imitations. costs $2 – $3 dollars each and put a couple in fridge and freezer. Totally unscented so it actually eliminates odor rather than covering up with some nasty fragrance and totally safe to use.
I’ve used these for worst smells including bad tasting ice, my litter boxes, spoiled fish in car and for closets, fridge etc. they are FANTASTIC> No spills or chemicals to worry about. You can buy these in kitchen gadget stores or just go direct which is what I do – contact them at customerservice@innofresh.com and ask for order form. You get it right away.
Can also buy at starcrest catalog (on web). Definitely the way to go. try it. Nothing to lose.
Good luck
